What if I told you you could have an all-expenses paid stay at the most luxurious cottage in your immediate area? What if after a preliminary stay where you learned how to care for this home, you would not only get to keep the cottage but also the surrounding land?
What if you found out your friend reserved this as a special surprise to show you how much they value you? Would you take them up on their reservation? How would you treat that friend after they had arranged this for you?
Listen to Jesus’ words for us,
Don’t let this throw you. You trust God, don’t you? Trust me. There is plenty of room for you in my Father’s home. If that weren’t so, would I have told you that I’m on my way to get a room ready for you? And if I’m on my way to get your room ready, I’ll come back and get you so you can live where I live. And you already know the road I’m taking. – John 14:1-4 MSG
Jesus has reserved a mansion in Heaven for us by unreservedly offering himself for us. Our Heavenly Friend has come through for us, in universe-shaking ways that still ripple through time. He calls us up on the personal “cell phones” of our souls and offers us the stay of an eternity in the dwelling place of God Almighty. Will we take it?
But we have reservations. What if God’s House, all shrouded with mystery, isn’t what it’s cracked up to be? What if we prefer “glamping” on earth—camping with some amenities of a home with Jesus but never committing to one place with Him?
So God gives us a taste of what the Heavenly Dwelling Place feels and looks like. A preliminary visit. He places his Spirit to dwell in our hearts. He comes to us and takes up residence in our glamping site. Inspired by the decor of Heaven, He transforms “roughing it” on earth into an experience echoing His own Halls of Light Beyond.
Will we go down the road to the cottage Jesus is building in our wilderness? Will we invite him in to show us how He would build this or tend that? Would you like Him to entrust you with the land surrounding it? Cancel your reservations at the glamp site. We have a Home. Our Best Friend, who arranged it all for our delight and at his own infinite cost, can be trusted.
