We hope for numerous things every day, some big things & some small things, but where does true hope come from? What happens when our hopes and dreams are shattered around us? “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13
Hope in Your Pain
Modified Transcript:
Hi it’s Kimberly from well Christian woman.
I’m very excited you decided to join me today as we talk a little bit about hope. Hope is something that I’ve been thinking a lot about lately, what it looks like and I guess getting a bit of a deeper understanding of it in my life than I ever had before.
I know many of you will have had experiences in your life where you’ve had to look at hope and what it means for you in that season. Whether you have hope or where do you get hope from for the circumstances that you might have been experiencing.
We hope for numerous things all the time every day whether it’s consciously or unconsciously. by definition hope is a desire or want for something that hasn’t happened yet. We may hope for more trivial things like “I hope it doesn’t rain today” or “I hope I like this lunch I ordered”, or bigger things like “I hope I passed this exam”, “I hope I get this job”, or “I hope my kids are healthy”.
I guess the question is what happens when our hopes and dreams lie shattered around us because something bad happened. Something in our lives that’s huge. Maybe it’s that you lost the job that’s the only thing supporting your family… or you lost a loved one… or you get a diagnosis of a terminal illness… or any of the other things that come into our lives that just bring our hope, our day to day feelings of hopefulness and anticipation into question.
I think that we do have answers that are awesome and that can help us in these times. Paul really speaks to this in Romans 15:13 when he’s talking to the believers in Rome.
He tells them this:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing so that by the power of the holy spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13
This is a good message, this is a great message, it’s as true for us today as it was for them.
So no matter what our circumstances, they don’t have to result in an obvious end and hopelessness. It doesn’t mean that we don’t feel sad or devastated by what might be happening in that season of our lives, but we can have great hope in Jesus who can defy all odds.
He gives us hope in our present circumstances and for eternity as well.
I just hope we can all experience this kind of hope!
