Lord I Need You

October 5, 2019 by Amy Wiens Leave a Comment

Lord I Need You

“When it rains, it pours!” Does that saying ring true for you too? I am feeling like there is so much on my plate right now… some good, some indifferent, and some not good. But here I am trying to juggle them all and it leaves me feeling overwhelmed to say the least.

My son recently fell and hit his head so badly it fractured his skull. We’ve had to make schedule changes at home so we can attend to him 24/7 until he heals up and can regain his schooling and more active routines.

When he was in the hospital the doctor told us that the fall did leave some damage but that his brain was saved and that the skull did its job. With relief, I thought to myself: 1) thank you, Jesus, for saving his brain, and 2) thank you God for designing us so well that our bodies can protect and heal themselves from injury.

I am frequently going back and forth with two emotions, gratefulness and anxiety. Grateful that my child is going to be ok once he heals. Grateful for the other good things that are happening in my life, even if they add to the weight I carry. Burdened by my own anxieties and emotions. Feeling sad at the drop of a hat and then feeling stressed at the work that lies ahead of me. This yo-yo effect of emotions is exhausting.

I have a song that calms me. It’s called “Lord I Need You” by Matt Maher. I listen to it on repeat when I’m anxious. It brings me back to my Father who is truly the only one who can have that effect on any of us. I need to hear it over and over again.

Lord I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You’re the One that guides my heart

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
Where You are, Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

So teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
When I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus…

This song settles me because it is what is written in his word:

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. – Matthew 11-:28-30 (NIV)

Life certainly has it challenges and my life may be ‘pouring’ with them right now, but I will take refuge in him. I will regain my strength to keep going because he will grant me strength and peace when I come to him.
